Medway Memorial Day Parade going forward
WWII veterans to be honored, fallen hero banners to fly along Holliston Street
After a two-year hiatus, due to the pandemic, the Town of Medway will once again have a parade leading up to their annual Memorial Day Service.
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, the parade will form at the Medway VFW and will begin at 10 a.m. to march down Holliston Street to the Colonel Michael Matondi Memorial Square.
The Medway High School band and the Worcester Kiltie band will again provide patriotic music. MHS students will provide vocal arrangements and play Taps at Matondi Square.
All service Veterans are urged to ride or march in our parade. Community organizations such as the Girl Scouts, Brownies and Boy Scouts are also urged to participate.
Since this is the 80th anniversary of the United States military’s involvement into World War II, this year instead of having just one Grand Marshall, the Memorial Committee will honor all Medway Veterans of World War II. The Memorial Committee invites all to attend this years’ service, but especially those who have family members or friends who served in World War II.
Medway WW II Veterans are asked to notify the Medway Town Clerk’s Office (508-533-3204) as soon as possible to make parade transportation available.
Each year during the Memorial Service, the names of Medway’s Fallen Heroes, those who gave their lives in the cause of freedom, are read aloud as an honor to their sacrifice. This year the Town of Medway, through the Medway Memorial Committee, has purchased a banner for each of these fallen heroes. The banners will be erected along Holliston Street starting from Matondi Square.
In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held inside the Medway Village Church beginning at 11 a.m.
